Scanning and DL/UL parameter acquisition Process in the SS On initialization or after signal loss, the SS shall acquire a DL ch. The PHY has achieved sync. Receive the DL-MAP (Lost DL- MAP interval) and DCD (T1 interval) messages SS receives a UCD message for UL ch. UL parameters are valid after receiving UL-MAP messages. If no UL ch. can be found after timeout period, the SS shall continuous scanning for another DL ch. 7 Note: Figure from IEEE Std 802.16

Tunneling for IEEE 802.16 Considerations or issues How will we make the tunnel for pre-registration? R9 Tunnel : WiMAX defines R9 protocol header MIH Tunnel –Define the MIH message header for Tunneling Need the compatibility between R9 tunnel and MIH tunnel? L2 Messages through Tunnel Originally, DL-MAP, UL-MAP, DCD and UDC are sent periodically from BS to MS. SFF emulates virtual BS. Can SFF send these messages periodically to MS through the tunnel? One method is MS to request these messages to SFF using new MIH message. Another method ??? 14
