RICYCLED TM : BIOMASS PRODUCT DELIVERS A NEW DIMENSION IN CSR 28th April 2010 PRESENTED BY: HECTOR INGRAM RICYCLED ASIA PACIFIC SDN BHD
2
WOOD THIS GOOD DOESN’T GROW ON TREES! Outline 1.Introduction to Ricycled TM Biomass turned into a functional product with many benefits 2.Ricycled TM and CSR reporting
3
WOOD THIS GOOD DOESN’T GROW ON TREES! Introduction to Ricycled TM Biomass content: 55% - 60% Rice husk waste from Malaysian farms is ground to a powder. Plastic content: 40% - 45% Waste PVC from Malaysia is ground. During the Ricycled TM production process the two materials are mixed and extruded into a solid, wood like material.
4
WOOD THIS GOOD DOESN’T GROW ON TREES! Benefits of Ricycled TM 1.More durable than wood: rot free, rust free, termite proof! 2.Environmental benefits: Can be used as wood alternative, therefore reducing need for unsustainable wood. Using 1 tonne of Ricycled TM can save 3.3 tonnes of forest from being cut. Diverts biomass and plastic wastes from landfill and therefore reduces the release of greenhouse gases. Waste generated during production is re-used. At the end of it’s life the Ricycled TM product can be returned to the factory to be crushed and re-extruded into a new product.

WOOD THIS GOOD DOESN’T GROW ON TREES! Biomass re-used in Ricycled TM 1.Rice production figures Rice production in Malaysia is approx 1.8 million tonnes per year. Equates to 390,000 tonnes of husk per year. Approximately 60% goes to landfill and 40% is burnt. 2.Ricycled TM reduces negative impacts Locks up methane: 21 times Carbon GWP over 50 year time frame. No landfill or incineration required for waste. Eliminates methane production / green house gas / potential pollutant source / rodents etc.
6
WOOD THIS GOOD DOESN’T GROW ON TREES! Ricycled TM : Reducing Carbon Footprint a)‘DOESN’T GROW ON TREES’ 3.3 tonnes forest stand need to be felled, trimmed & sawn to make 1 tonne of planks. 1 tonne of Ricycled TM extruded planks can be used as an alternative, saving unnecessary felling of trees. b)‘IT DOESN’T COST THE EARTH’ Locks away methane Reduces pressure on landfill Recycling of pre and post consumer waste

WOOD THIS GOOD DOESN’T GROW ON TREES! Ricycled TM : a New Dimension of CSR Consuming materials like Ricycled TM can ‘green’ your business and form part of your CSR activities in the following areas: 1.Reducing carbon footprint 2.Responsible material selection and use 3.Education and awareness 4.Self-regulation and incentives 5.Green Building Index (GBI)
8
WOOD THIS GOOD DOESN’T GROW ON TREES! Procurement practice increasingly selects products with green performance characteristics Government policies Multi-national companies conscious of their environmental impact will buy ‘green’ products if performance as good as alternatives. Education and awareness Changing patterns of behaviour over time to maximise value of waste products, and more careful use of resources. Self regulation and incentives. Seen as responsible Doesn’t have to be imposed in a way that is difficult to manage Ricycled TM : Responsibility
9
WOOD THIS GOOD DOESN’T GROW ON TREES! Ricycled TM : Green Building Index example Materials like Ricycled TM can contribute to GBI accreditation: Tax and other incentives for having GBI accreditation
10
WOOD THIS GOOD DOESN’T GROW ON TREES! Ricycled TM : Summary Responsible use of Malaysia’s agricultural waste Malaysian technology, born & bred. Product with performance characteristics as good, or better than current materials it replaces. Makes economic sense. Delivers multiple environmental benefits.
