2
Talk to your kids about being online
3
Not sure where to begin? It’s never too early. As soon as your child begins to use a computer, a phone, or any mobile device, it’s time to talk to them about online behavior.
4
Avoid talking at your child. Barking orders to your child creates a negative environment.
5
Create and honest and open environment. Kids rely to parents to help guide them. Be positive and supportive. Listen and keep their feelings into account.
6
Initiate conversations. Use everyday opportunities to talk to kids about being online: TV programs or news featuring online issues (such as cyberbullying). Proper manners when using a phone. Privacy issues.
7
Communicate your values. Talk about the importance of values and how they apply to an online context. Kids can make wise choices if they have clear values.
8
Be patient. Make time to talk to kids and make them feel they can come to you at any time. Repeat information in small doses whenever the opportunity arises.
