#HASummit14 Lessons Learned 5 1.When building your team, consolidate competencies into fewer roles rather than more. I’ve found I only need 3 basic roles: administrator, architect, and analyst. With each additional role created, additional handoffs are required, which just increases the potential for miscommunication and “dropped batons.” 2.Don’t underestimate the tremendous data governance challenge of building a data-driven culture. The solutions for establishing data veracity and widespread data utilization go far beyond technology. Inherent in any solution is cultural and organizational transformation. 3.Ensure there is a clearly articulated problem statement, or “burning platform,” before charging ahead on any data warehousing initiative. This establishes business ownership and sponsorship of the solution. 4.Team collaboration is key for deploying highly valuable solutions. Take care to create an EDW team that is well suited and comfortable engaging and interacting with peers in business and clinical areas.
