Dreamweaver 3 zDreamweaver is a professional visual editor for creating and managing web sites and pages. zDreamweaver System Requirements yIntel Pentium processor or equivalent, 120 MHz or faster running Windows 95 or above y32 MB of RAM plus 20 MB of available disk space yA color monitor with 800 x 600 resolution yCD ROM drive

Create a Site zTo create a local site: yChoose SITE > NEW SITE zIn site name field yenter a name for the site zIn the local root folder field, specify the folder on your local disk yclick the folder icon to browse to and select the folder zIn the HTTP address field, enter the URL that your completed web-site will use yclick OK under the cache option

Create a Page zChoose FILE > SAVE yIn the SAVE AS dialog box, select the site you wish to save to. yIn the FILE NAME field, select the folder to save in yClick SAVE

Change a Page Title zChoose MODIFY > PAGE PROPERTIES zEnter the title for the page in the TITLE box zclick OK

Creating Layers zTo insert a layer yplace the insertion point in the Document Window where you want to position the layer yChoose INSERT > LAYER yIf layer markers aren’t visible, choose VIEW > IVISABLE ELEMENTS

Creating A Frameset zChoose MODIFY > FRAMESET >SPLIT FRAME LEFT OR RIGHT OR UP OR DOWN zTO DELETE A FRAMESET yDrag the frame border all the way of the page

Creating a Nested Frame zPlace the insertion point in the frame where you want to insert a nested frame zChoose MODIFY > FRAMESET > SPLIT FRAME yyou must save a frameset file and all associated files before you can preview the page in a browser.

Specifying frame sizes zClick frame border to select the frameset. zWhen the cursor turns into a vertical arrow, then left click and move the frame.

Setting Frame Borders zSelect the frame by clicking the frame in the Frame Inspector zSet the following options in the property inspector yborders controls the border of the current frames yborder color sets a border as a color

Page Color zChoose MODIFY > PAGE PROPERTIES zSet a background image and/or page color: yclick the BROWSE button to select the image yto choose a color, use the eyedropper to select a color from the swatch palette

Adding Text zType directly into the document window zCopy text from another application, using EDIT > PASTE

To Insert Table, Images, or Objects zChoose WINDOW > OBJECT yfind the type of object you want and click and drag to where you want it yYou can do this for tables and images also

Aligning Text zSelect the text you want to align ychoose TEXT > ALIGNMENT

Creating Lists zPlace the insertion point where you want to add a list of new items zChoose TEXT > LIST and select the type of list desired zTo complete the list, press ENTER twice

To Change Font zSelect the text zChoose a font combination from the property inspector zTo undo changes yChoose EDIT > UNDO

Editable Regions zEditable regions are the part of the template that change. zNon-editable regions are areas that remain constant, such as letterhead or logo

Create a Template zTo create a new, blank template yChoose WINDOWS > TEMPLATES yClick the contest menu button, then select NEW TEMPLATE xa new untitled template is added yWhile template is still selected, enter a name for the template

Defining a Template’s Editable Regions zIn the template select the text or content you want to make editable ychoose MODIFY > TEMPLATES > MARK SELECTION AS EDITABLE yIn the NEW EDITABLE REGION template box, enter a name for the region.

Linking to a document zSelect text or an image in the Document Window zOpen the Property Inspector (WINDOW > PROPERTIES) yClick the folder icon to the right of the Link field to browse to select a file yThe path to the linked document appears in the URL field. yUse the Relative To pop-up menu in the Select HTML File dialog box zTo Link the document to your site, yEnter a document-relative or root-relative path. zTo Link a document outside your site y Enter an absolute path including the protocol (http://) zSelect a location where your document will open

Linking to an Anchor zIn the document window, place the insertion point where you want the named anchor. zChoose INSERT > NAMED ANCHOR zIn the Insert Named Anchor dialog box, type a name for the anchor

Linking to E-mail zChoose INSERT > E-MAIL LINK zIn the e-mail field, type the e-mail address

Putting the page on the web zGo to SITE > DEFINE SITE yclick on the site to put on the web ypress edit zUnder CATEGORY highlight Web Server Info zHighlight FTP under SERVER ACCESS yFTP HOST is barney.gonzaga.edu yHOST DIRECTORY is /home/ug/s/asalmans/public_html yEnter login and pass word and press ok. zClick DONE zPress REFRESH zThen your remote site should come up and show you all the remote files.

Our personal opinions zDreamweaver is beneficial to the experienced web page designer yit is user friendly because it is equipped with a graphical user interface yit is quick to compile an entire uniform site xeasy to insert graphics and background colors

… continued zHowever, we do not recommend Dreamweaver to the inexperienced web designer ybecause the designer will not be familiar with the physical structure.
