LIBRARY LAYOUT Nonfiction shelved by Dewey Decimal number
Picture Mags Multiples Graphic Novels Readers Fiction Reference Discuss each section of library in turn starting at the left with NonFiction. Click the mouse for each section and an Hibou will fly in to highlight where in the library the section is located. NonFiction Nonfiction shelved by Dewey Decimal number Fiction shelved by Author’s last name

Library Circle of Life Put in library tub and take to return cart
Come to the library and choose books Check out books Take books home to read Bring library books to school

CHECKING OUT BOOKS Maximum 2 books at a time
Extra 3 for class projects Procedure Sign out in Blue Book if I am not there Get Browser card Select books Use browser card to mark book’s place on shelf Return browser card Check out books Demonstrate selecting a book from the shelf using a browser card. Show what a library card looks like Show where the barcode is on a library book Click the sound button to demonstrate the beep that the scanner makes – once for library card, once for book barcode

Blue Book Checkout Fill in each box on the blue book sheet

LOAN PERIODS Material Loan Period Notes Book 2 weeks Magazines DVD
Term Teacher only Reference Library use only If item is more than a month overdue, no other books may be signed out If need more time, ask to renew book

Renewals and Holds Renew To get material for 2 more weeks
Up to 2 times if not on hold for someone else Up to 2 books at a time At Circ desk or Blue book Holds Are for materials already checked out Adds you to the Hold list Kept for 1 week - after that Hold is cancelled Place at Circ desk

RETURNING BOOKS Where: on the return cart When:
Weekly class library time Ask teacher if during class time What if: book is lost, wet, dirty or damaged? PLEASE let me know If it can’t be fixed/found, replacement cost $$ must be paid

LIBRARY ETIQUETTE Inside voices in the library
When walking through library be silent Use a browser card Ensure books on shelf are At front of shelf Spine out Keep books clean and dry and happy Return books on time Put books neatly on return cart

HOW TO KEEP BOOKS HAPPY Lunch and water bottle Rain, snow
Hazards Strategy Lunch and water bottle Rain, snow Small children and pets Food Pens, pencils, crayons, etc. Keep library books in a plastic bag in backpack Have a special place for library books that they can’t reach Don’t eat and read at the same time Keep book away from your drawing area
