Arizona has an abundance of rocks and minerals, such as: Granite Sandstone Aggregate Copper Schist Gypsum Marble Scoria Turquoise Silver Gold Galena

Some important uses of these are: Concrete Brick mortar Wallboard Stucco Electrical wiring Patio stones Buildings Jewelry Countertops Fire retardant Carpet backing Waste odor control Landscaping Soil amendment Ornaments Lead

Using Our Natural Materials We want to use native materials in building our town because it’s good for our economy –Jobs for miners in our state –Money for the mining companies that is invested in the state –Jobs for local geologists –Jobs for truck drivers bringing the materials –Local businesses that sell the local materials

Using Our Natural Materials Our native sandstones are beautiful –Parts of Coconino and Yavapai Counties are often considered sandstone-flagstone capitals of the world Our copper is plentiful, and, because it is local, it is cheap to use. It is used for a variety of things, such as: –Electrical wire –Brass alloy –Sculptures and other artwork –Roofs of houses and other important buildings –Ornamentation (to make things look nicer)

Our Growing Town Queen Street Saguaro Street Palm Lane Banner Way The following plan will show ways that these materials can be used in our town.

House Styles Gypsum for stucco Granite for landscaping Aggregate for driveway, sidewalks, and roads Copper for electrical wiring Brucite for carpet backing Granite for countertop Concrete for roof tiles Sandstone - flagstone (sedimentary rock) for path Gypsum for the soil to grow grass and for wallboard inside the house Copper for wiring and ornaments Copper for pipes Aggregate for brick mortar

Park Gypsum for soil amendment Aggregate for sidewalks Copper (azurite mineral included) for copper wiring for light fixtures Brucite for electric wire insulation Granite for the bathroom floors Sandstone for the bathroom walls Granite boulders for landscaping Aggregate for parking lot

Where does this rock in my hand fit into my life? Our lives depend on rocks and minerals in ways we didn’t realize Without these minerals and rocks, we would not have so many of the things we depend on such as electricity, buildings, cement, concrete, pharmaceuticals, soil amendments, waste water treatment chemicals, and plastic compounds

Conclusion We feel that our town should use our native materials due to the reasons presented to you. We hope you will use these ideas and keep our town beautiful and our economy going strong. Thank You!
