Network Hub It is very difficult to find Hubs anymore Hubs sends data from one computer to all other computers on the network. It is a low cost low function machine that usually operates at Layer 1 of the OSI Hubs are rarely used since Switches have become the desired device. Hubs cost $30 to $300 Hubs should only be used in small networks They can slow down traffic while performing packet collision detection Hubs are useful for packet sniffing where you want to see all traffic on the network. Devices are connected through Cat5 wire

Network Switch Netgear Switches A switch connects devices over the Layer 2 or 3 of the OSI model, This allows a computer to send information to another computer directly instead of to all devices like on a hub. Switches have software that can function like a router and keeps a table of all the devices attached and is able to route traffic more efficiently Switches are used for all sizes of networks Switches are connected through Cat 5 or Cat6 or Fiber optic cables Switches range from $30 to $ 15000 There is a large range in pricing determined by the need. Small 5 port switches are for small networks. The more expensive units can handle thousands of nodes and handle layer 3 routing

Network Router Netgear Router Routers Function like switches in routing traffic using layer 3 using IP address. They can have very high end functions like a firewall, it just depends on what you want them to do. You can get routers that have wan interfaces for home or small office use. You can even get them that have built in switches and wireless access point function. Router can cost from $50 TO $10,000 Depending on what use and function you want them to perform and what brand you want.

Network Bridge EnGenius Wireless Bridge Network Bridges are similar to switches but do not have as many ports. There are bridges that will connect two networks together wired or wireless depending on the application. I have used wireless bridges for devices that needed to be connected to the network but did not have a way to get a physical cable there. Like a printer or a computer in a single remote location. $50 to $500 dollars is the cost of what I have a seen.

Network Gateway Cisco Gateway Network Gateways are the entry point into the network. They may be provided by the internet provider for giving you internet from there network. Gateways are sometimes called routers Gateways are the Wan facing device in most cases. They may have different cards or connection types such as T1, Fiber, Coax. They can use different protocols to translate to your Ethernet network. They generally cost from $350 to $6500 from what I have seen.. We use them from T! providers to give us internet to our local office.

Network Firewalls Sonicwall Firewall Firewalls are used to protect the network from intrusion, viruses, etc… Firewalls help control traffic in and out of the network, through UDP and TCP ports. These ports can be opened for certain or all devices, and can be blocked to not allow traffic on these ports if not needed. Firewalls can detect intrusions or traffic trying multiple ways in and block them from getting in. Firewalls cost from $100 to $10,000 depending on what the application is and the size of then network and traffic flow requirements. They take special engineers to program and configure We use firewalls for all networks and use them sometimes for content filtering, virus scanning and protection and port forwarding for certain applications.

Wireless Access Point Sonicwall Access Point Wireless Access points create a wireless connection from the network to a laptop, tablet, printer, Desktop, Phone. There are different Wireless Connection types like 802.11 There is A, B, G, N and now AC Each have different range of coverage and speed or throughput The cost ranges from $50 to $2000 Depending on need We use access points in homes, business and outside for wireless access needs. If you ever connected to a Free WIFI you connected through and Access Point
