Homework Policy It is our philosophy that homework is meaningful and it is necessary to reinforce concepts and extend thinking. Guideline: 60 - 70 min. a night. Students will not normally be assigned homework over the weekend, but occasionally students may want to work on projects during the weekend. All students are expected to turn in homework ON TIME –Tally marks will be given each day an assignment is missing. Any assignment with a 75% or below should be fixed and returned. Missing work may result in the loss of student choice learning activities

Homework/Projects Students will need access to a computer and library resources. Focus on organization and time management. Group and individual projects. Designed to incorporate higher-level thinking skills, challenge, and integrate disciplines. Require QUALITY & EFFORT Students may be asked to re-do work.

Writing & Reading Spelling unit based on Greek and Latin stems. Daily homework. 6 Traits of Writing Variety of writing forms/products Writer’s Workshop –Re-writing/Polishing/Presenting Literature Based –Including the Classics, Jr. Great Books and other quality literature Social Stuides Book Reports Literature Groups

Math Math concepts build on one another Students will be challenged at their own level Pre-assessments Hands-on Learning Stations Daily homework

Science Inquiry Research & Project-Based Scientific Method Lab Experiments/Notebooks Current Events 6 th : Atmosphere, Weather Systems, Water, Energy, Human Body Systems, Cells

Social Studies Interdisciplinary Simulations 6 th : Ancient Civilizations –Exploring the development of: Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Middle East, China, India, Greece, Rome, and European cultures. Including aspects such as: religion, customs, geography, government & economics.

Art Incorporate into projects and curriculum Important for creativity, spatial skill development Utilize parent volunteers

Odds & Ends Please sign-in at the front office – even to just drop something off. The cafeteria is open for lunch money deposits. Due to nutritional guidelines and food handling rules, the cafeteria asks that parents do not bring in lunch for the class or homemade baked goods. Healthy Snack Please consider tax credit donations Students can only be checked out of school by adults who are on the emergency card. Please make all after school arrangements before school.
