Physical and Chemical Changes A Write On Activity
3
Objective: Chemical/Physical Change: Differentiate The learner will be able to (ESSENTIAL) distinguish between a physical and chemical change.
4
In your notebook: Write notes on the following powerpoint. You will need to know what a physical and chemical change is and what you look for when determining if something is a physical or chemical change.
5
Matter Matter is everywhere. Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. Matter is constantly experiencing both chemical and physical changes.
6
Physical Change Physical changes occur when matter changes its property but not its chemical nature. Physical property changes could include a change in: texture, shape, size, color, change of state, volume, mass, weight, and density.
7
Physical Change
8
Chemical Change Chemical changes are changes matter undergoes when it becomes new or different matter. A new substance is formed. To identify a chemical change look for signs such as color change, odor, bubbling and fizzing, light production, smoke, and presence of heat.
9
Chemical Change A chemical change occurs when fireworks are used. Fireworks are made of metals such as magnesium and copper. These change chemically as they light up the sky.
