3. Objective: Chemical/Physical Change: Differentiate  The learner will be able to (ESSENTIAL) distinguish between a physical and chemical change.

4. In your notebook: Write notes on the following powerpoint. You will need to know what a physical and chemical change is and what you look for when determining if something is a physical or chemical change.

5. Matter  Matter is everywhere.  Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass.  Matter is constantly experiencing both chemical and physical changes.

6. Physical Change  Physical changes occur when matter changes its property but not its chemical nature.  Physical property changes could include a change in: texture, shape, size, color, change of state, volume, mass, weight, and density.

8. Chemical Change  Chemical changes are changes matter undergoes when it becomes new or different matter. A new substance is formed.  To identify a chemical change look for signs such as color change, odor, bubbling and fizzing, light production, smoke, and presence of heat.
