Summary Act 3.1 The Fight Mercutio and Benvolio are in the city, bantering about who likes to fight more. Tybalt and other Capulets approach them and men from both sides (Montagues and Capulets) begin hurling insults. Tybalt is looking for Romeo because he’s still upset about Romeo crashing the party. Romeo tries to convince Tybalt that they shouldn’t fight, that Romeo has reason to love Tybalt. Mercutio cannot stand this “dishonorable, vile submission!” and fights Tybalt. Tybalt stabs Mercutio and he dies. Romeo gets revenge by killing Tybalt. The Prince hears of the fighting and exiles Romeo from Verona.
