INDIA India is a subcontinent – large landmass, but smaller than a continent. India’s population is OVER 1 BILLION Most of the population is in cities Major cities face overpopulation Poverty is a HUGE problem There are people that live in rural areas & work as farmers.

CHINA Majority of the population lives on the EAST coast near rivers or coastal areas for trade People in west China, work as farmers City populations are growing because of industry & trade

KOREAS People in North & South Korea tend to live in cities North Korea has large deposits of coal, iron, and other minerals – makes it VERY rich in resources South Korea does not have many natural resources

JAPAN Japan is a small island that is heavily over-populated, which causes pollution problems Space is limited! World’s strongest fishing economies Most of the food is IMPORTED because there are so many mountains

Causes of Pollution 7 of the 10 most polluted cities in the world are located in China Caused by number of cars, factories, and burning of coal for electricity Asian Brown Cloud – caused by too much pollution in the air. A brown haze that can alter paths of monsoons, reduce photosynthesis, increase human respiratory problems, & reduce solar radiation on earth Waste from factories, motor vehicles, forest fires

SOLUTION REDUCE POPULATION – China = one child per family policy **China has the highest population in the world.** **India has the second highest population.**

GANGES RIVER POLLUTION-Causes Chemicals used in farming and industry wash into the river. Chromium is a toxic chemical used in tanning leather. Human and animal waste are also dumped into the water because sewage from the cities is not treated. Cremated remains are also put into the Ganges.
