CHARACTER BASICS Start by listing the main gay and straight/ disabled characters. Do they provide a range of ideas about homosexuality/ disability or do they all suggest similar qualities and values?

ANY POLARISATIONS? Are the representations of homosexuality/ disability polarised? [Does the text suggest that gay and straight/ disabled characters are very different? Opposites even?]

STEREOTYPES? Does the text contain stereotyped characters? If so, what ideas does the stereotype communicate? How are the audience positioned: ironically, to laugh at the stereotype? To laugh at the group which is being stereotyped?

TARGET AUDIENCE? What is the relationship between the target audience and representations of homosexuality/ disability constructed?

IDEAS List all the ideas which are associated with the representation of homosexuals/ disabled within the text.

INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTS Consider how the institutional context of the text [channel ethos, scheduling time, production company values] relates to the representations created.
