2 ABOUT THE TEACHERS: Miss Free: Graduated from Texas State University in 2011 1 st Year teacher at Jennie Reid Live in LaPorte with my dog Avery Born, raised and graduated from La Porte HS Miss Heintschel: Graduated from Texas A&M in 2005 10 th year at Jennie Reid Teacher of the Year 11-12 Live in La Porte with my dog Aggie Grew up and graduated from La Porte HS

6 DAILY SCHEDULES Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Friday 7:50-8:00 Morning Meetings 8:00-10:00 Switch classes, 1 st class of the day (not with homeroom teacher) 10:00-10:30 Switch classes back to homeroom 10:30-10:45 Recess (Free & Heintschel) 10:45-11:40 Specials/Conference Time 11:43-12:03 Lunch 12:30-2:00 2 nd class of the day (with homeroom teacher) 2:00-2:50 Intervention Time 2:50-3:00 Pack up and Dismissal

7 AFFECTS OUR SCHOOL RATING/ DISTINCTIONS EARNED CAMPUS GOAL: 98% LAST YEAR: 96.3% Help us protect and value the instructional time students receive while on campus by avoiding truancy: tardies, absences, early-outs, unless students are ill.

10 READER’S AND WRITER’S WORKSHOP Each student has a Writing and Reading Notebook. Reading and Writing are essential components to student success. Students reflect on books, characters and story elements. Writing is a form of expression and students will write almost daily on a wide range of topics. Published work can be found hanging outside our room for others to view. Please encourage your child to read nightly as reading is essential. 12 Accelerated Reader 3 rd Grade Goal is 30 points per semester Which will be broken down into 15 points per nine weeks AR is not just about points, but about encouraging students to become active, life-long readers. AR is not our reading program, but an incentive program. The AR committee will meet soon to establish proper guidelines and procedures, expect to see a letter soon. Parents stay tuned for more AR information, BUT START encouraging your child today

13 GRADES AND HOMEWORK Daily Grades: 80% Major/Assess: 20% Homework is an effective tool in developing responsibility, study habits, and skills. It is an extension of the learning process and involves the home in the child’s curriculum. Please encourage your child to do their homework regularly and return it daily.

16 TRANSPORTATION CHANGES Please communicate all transportation changes in writing or through email. We can not take the word of the students. If an unplanned change should occur, please call the office as early as possible. They will inform the teacher. Please don’t leave a voicemail about changes in case the teacher is absent and unable to check messages.

17 Friday Red Folders Blue Daily Homework Folders Please check your child’s Friday folder every weekend. Clear out the graded papers. Sign the conduct sheet. Sign any work that is requesting a signature. Return folder and signed papers on Monday. Your child will bring home a Homework folder each night. Please be sure your child completes their homework and returns it in their Homework folder the next morning.
