12  History of N*Grid with KISTI  1998-1999: Preceding research  Development of metacomputing technology on heterogeneous supercomputing resources(The result is published at PDPTA2000 conference)  Development of a portable computational steering package: CSP  2000: Initiation of Globus-related research and activity  Building of Globus-based metacomputing test-bed  Satoshi Sekiguchi(TACC, Japan) proposed Korea to join APGrid(Jun., Dec.)  2001: N*Grid start  KISTI Supercomputing Center suggest at MIC to carry out N*Grid(Feb.)  MIC announced to start N*Grid as a 5 year(2002-2006) national project(May.)  Korea Gird Forum will be launched in Oct., 2001. 29 Summary  The goal of the N*Grid project is to build a national Grid infra as a high performance research cyber infra.  The N*Grid project is to enhance research productivity in the fields of science and technology.  The future direction of N*Grid project will be emphasized on the activation of Grid technology research - by participating in GGF WG/RGs for the international Grid technology standardization, - by implementing international standard Grid testbeds, and - by developing of Grid Middleware and applications.
