What is communication?

Communication is one of the most important parts of people´s lives. We use our language (system of sounds and words) to communicate our thoughts and feelings. We also use the system of signs, symbols, gestures for exchanging information.

We can divide communication into these groups: Verbal/Non-verbal Written/Oral Formal/Informal Direct/Indirect

Verbal communication is a spoken language. It is pronouncing words. People talk to each other every day. Many of us prefer talking to others face to face. It allows the speaker to ask questions or answer them.

There are different kinds of verbal communication: Formal Informal Chatting Gossipping

Non-verbal communication means using : Symbols Signs Gestures Facial expressions

Body language we have a complex body language of postures, gestures and facial expressions. Our bodies are constantly talking. We smile, frown or make different gestures, shapes with our hands.

The role of letters in communication has changed significantly since the 19th century. In the past letters were the only reliable form of communication between two persons in different locations.

Short Message Service or SMS is a new communication service available in the mobile. Young people love sending text messages using their mobile phones

Email is a method of exchanging digital messages. To send and receive emails we need an Internet connection.
