As Mrs. Covert is taking role answer the five questions on the worksheet. You only have 5 minutes. This needs to be done individually. NO TALKING!!!!
2
Take Tables Quiz No talking this is an individual process. First, any questions on tables practice.
3
Physics Story Telling Graphs Friday, August 22
4
By the end of the day … I will be able to describe the events of a graph. I will be able to watch a movie and depict it in a graph. I will be able to turn a story into a graph. I will be able to turn a graph into a story.
5
Phase I Lets Learn about Graphs
6
Cyber Chase for Real Video Clip “ Harry the Hoser ”
7
Understanding graphs requires DETECTIVE SKILLS
8
Detective Tools 1.Know what you are working with. *Look and know the labels on the side *x-axis is the known value, who know what is happening *y-axis is the unknown or measured value
9
Try it out time (s) H e i g h t (m) As time passes (x-axis) we will be looking to see what happens to the height (y-axis). Time is on the x- axis because it is known Height is on the y-axis because it is changing and is unknown what it will do. We are measuring it.
10
Detective Tools 1.Know what you are working with. *Look and know the labels on the side *x-axis is the known value, who know what is happening *y-axis is the unknown or measured value 2.Know how to read what it is telling you. *Know what those lines mean
11
Constant – Not Changing
12
Increasing – at a constant rate
13
Increasing – faster and faster
14
Increasing – slower and slower
15
Decreasing – at a constant rate
16
Decreasing – faster and faster
17
Decreasing – slower and slower
18
Does steepness matter? The steeper the line the faster the change!! The blue line is increasing faster than the purple line.
19
Try it out (1)constant (2)decreases (3)constant (4)increases time (s) H e i g h t (m) (1) (2) (3) (4)
20
Detective Tools 1.Know what you are working with. *Look and know the labels on the side *x-axis is the known value, who know what is happening *y-axis is the unknown or measured value 2.Know how to read what it is telling you. *Know what those lines mean 3.Put the story together
21
Try it out (1)It stays at the same height. (2)Then decreases to a lower height and (3)stays there for awhile. (4)Finally, it increases height until it passes it original height. time (s) H e i g h t (m) (1) (2) (3) (4)
22
Try it out II (1)Speed increases than decreases to zero. (2)Then increases and decreases again, but not as fast again. (3)Pattern continues to, but a slower maximum speed is reached. (4)Pattern still continues. time (s) S p e d (m/ s) (1) (2) (3) (4)
23
Phase II Matching Movies to Graphs Found on Mrs. Covert ’ s Website
24
Creating Graphs Hints Remember how do you show –Increase –Decrease –Constant As you watch the clip pay attention for these things. Watch for a starting location. Draw lightly to make changes.
25
Phase III Watching Movies to Creating Graphs On Mrs. Covert ’ s Webpage
26
How am I doing on the daily goals … I will be able to describe the events of a graph. I will be able to watch a movie and depict it in a graph. I will be able to turn a story to graph. I will be able to turn a graph into a story.
27
Assignment Complete the back page of the beginning worksheet. Make sure to indicate if your first answer was right or wrong. Explain what is wrong about each of the incorrect graphs.
