4 ANDREW JACKSON (1767-1845) Refused and his hand was cut to the bone when the soldier struck him with his sword Carried a hatred for the British with him the rest of his life

5 ANDREW JACKSON (1767-1845) His mother died shortly thereafter and he was an orphan at age 14 Jackson eventually became a lawyer (with very little book learning) and moved to western North Carolina which became Tennessee

6 In Tennessee he became a representative in the H of R, a U.S. senator, a major general and he married into the most prominent family He became a national hero for his role in the Battle of New Orleans ANDREW JACKSON (1767-1845)

7 After the war, Jackson fought Indians down in Florida (1818-1819) and was a candidate for president in 1824 (Corrupt Bargain election)
