2 What to do? The next slides are a list of the first ten Presidents of the United States. Try to memorize as much of the information as possible. Especially try to remember the order that they are in. There will be extra credit questions on your next test from these slides; so work hard and memorize a lot. Allyson Powell

4 John Adams Born in 1735 in Massachusetts Became president in 1797
Forced out of presidency after one year Died in 1826 His house can still be visited today. Information from: Allyson Powell

5 Thomas Jefferson Born in 1743, in Virginia A lawyer
Died on the same day as John Adams in 1826 First President to begin and end his term in the White House. Information from: Allyson Powell

6 James Madison Born in 1751 in Virginia Elected President in 1808

7 James Monroe Born in 1758 in Virginia Joined the Anti-Federalist party

8 John Quincy Adams Born in 1767 in Massachusetts
Graduated from Harvard College Son of the 2nd President, John Adams One of America’s greatest Secretaries of State Died in 1848 Information from: Allyson Powell

9 Andrew Jackson Born in 1767 in the Carolinas Elected by popular vote
Accidentally killed a man in a fight Elected President in 1829 Died in 1845 Information from: Allyson Powell

10 Martin Van Buren Born in 1782 in New York Only 5 foot 6 inches tall

11 William Henry Harrison
Born in 1773 in Virginia Studied medicine in Richmond Famous for the Battle of Tippecanoe First President to die in office Died in 1841 Information from: Allyson Powell

12 John Tyler Born in 1790 in Virginia
First Vice-president to become President due to the death of his predecessor Became President in 1841 Died in 1862 Information from: Allyson Powell
