What can we learn ? (8:4-18) Jesus talks about seeds being sown. Listen to life application for us that we need to strive for excellence.

Movie time (14 minutes) The Man The Ministering Women (8:1-3) The Sower (8:4-21) 34:18-41:05 The Storm (8:22-25) The Gerasene Demoniac (8:26-56) Jairus’ Daughter (8:40-56) 19:02-21:33 (Note the woman with issue of blood. Lk8dc.flv )

The Ministering Women (8:1-3) The presence of these women explains the manner of our Lord’s livelihood. Comments about Mary (Marshall pg22) 1. Woman whom our Lord had cast out seven devils. Probably a wealthy woman (8:2). 2. At tomb, early on the resurrection AM (24:10). 3. Near the cross at the crucifixion (Mt 27:56). 4. At the burial with Mary, Clopas’ wife (Mt 27:61). 5. Jesus appeared to her first after His resurrection (Mt 28:9; Jn 20:14-18). 6. Likely the woman who was the sinner at the house of Simon, the Pharisee (Lk 7:37).

Parable of the Sower (8:4-21) Parable – an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. Hidden from others but revealed to the disciples (8:10-10) Seed – word of God Birds – devil Thorns – cares, riches and pleasures Good soil – an honest and good heart Similar to talents & pounds (11:11-27)

Parable of the Sower (8:4-21) Disciples are to use this newly learnt wisdom as a lamp to give light to others. Expectations from the disciples. Similar to the parable of the Talents & Pounds (11:11-27) Note: His mother and brothers came for Him (8:19-21).

Sea of Galilee (8:22)

The Storm (8:22-25) Note the account. Another miracle over nature – draught of the fish (5:1-11) Waves stilled AND Wind stilled Shown two-fold character of Jesus 1. His humanity – weary and sleeping 2. His divinity – in stilling the storm

The Gerasene Demoniac (8:26-56) Note the incident well. Quite a distance they traveled (see map) He bears witness to our Lord’s divinity. Other instance – Demoniac in the synagogue (4:33-44) Reaction of the people Gerasenes 1. Loss of their herds affected more than the healing of the demoniac. 2. Not bothered with the spiritual blessings. The demoniac is to be a preacher!

Jairus’ Daughter (8:40-56) His ONLY daughter cf Nain-ONLY son (7:11-17), Lazarus – ONLY brother. He touched the dead body (see notes on 7:11-17) He used the word “sleep” to show He can wake her up.

Woman with issue of blood (8:40-56) Some thoughts about this woman… Lk8dc.flv

Woman with issue of blood (8:40-56) She is ceremonially unclean by her disease. Affected a holy Rabbi. Many pressed Him only one with the touch of faith! Note Jesus has the power to heal. He has compassion on this poor, ill and companionless woman. A thought – Why He chose not to just kept quiet about this healing?

Reminder Meanwhile read the text book and notes Attempt the questions given so far. 29/04/07 will be off…
