Part of Speech (7.9b) Write down the eight parts of speech. Give two examples for each one of the parts of speech and turn them in. Do not talk to anyone about this. This is a diagnostic to see if you know what they are. It is not important today to get this right. It is important for me to gage what you know against what you do not. We will go over these later.

Parts of Speech Noun - Person, place, thing or idea Verb - Action or a state of being Adjective – Used to describe a noun Adverb – Used to modify verb, adjective or another adverb Pronoun – A word that takes the place of a noun. (I, you, he, she, it, they, etc.) Preposition – Links a noun to another word (to, from, above, etc.) Conjunction – Joins clauses, sentences or words Interjection – Short exclamation inserted in a sentence (Ouch!!, Hi, NO!!!) If you said “Articles” or “Determiners” – That is great. I can accept that. These are words like a, an or the.

Final Work for the Day Take out a few sheets of paper and answer this question completely. Use complete sentences. Who are you? Do not ask anyone else what this means. Do not ask me for more information this question. Answer this to the best of your ability as completely as possible. Work until I ask you to stop. You are never done writing on any project. You will also be able to go back and rewrite, edit and improve it. Bring this to the next class. That is part of your homework.
