Changed in Communication Due to the vast distance people could now travel a need to stay connected developed. The Telegraph- Samuel Morse created it in 1844. by 1860 telegraph wire all around U.S. and even Europe. Used Morse code to communicate. Controlled by Western Union Telegraph

Telephone Alexander Graham Bell- wanted to be able to have “voice” travel through the wire. In 1876 created the first telephone

The Light Bulb Thomas Edison- created a workshop in Menlo Park New Jersey. First invented the phonograph, motion picture projector, telephone transmitter, and the storage battery. In 1879 developed the first workable light bulb. Then a power plant that could distribute power to the bulb.

George Westinghouse George Westinghouse took Edison’s invention a set further. In 1885 develops transformers to send power more efficiently and over greater distances.

African American Inventors Lewis Howard Latimeri improved filament for light bulbs Granville Woods- many electrical invention and railroad improvements. Elijah McCoy- machine for oiling machinery Jan E. Matzeliger- shoe making machine

Henry Ford 1908 Henry Ford revels the Model T- first long lasting cars. With this invention he also creates a factory that uses assembly lines to mass produce the car.

Need a place to Sell the goods With so many new inventions and goods being created, they was a demand for a place to by all these goods. New store are created to sell them; Montgomery Wards, Sears, Roebuck, and Woolworths were all created.
