Today’s Tasks EVERYONE: Each one of the ATTORNEYS wrote 3 questions for 6 witnesses last night. Each WITNESS wrote 5 questions they anticipated being asked with 5 responses Meet with each other (and understudies) and discuss the following: 1. the questions that witnesses will be asked 2. How you suspect they will respond to each question– do they agree? (make sure to come to an agreement) What do they plan on saying? 3. Discuss the evidence/quote you are going to use in the trial that is relevant to this witness/understudy – does your evidence match each others? Write down differences. IN YOUR COMP BOOK: WRITE DOWN THE QUESTIONS THAT EACH PERSON EXPECTS TO ASK OR BE ASKED. WRITE ANY RELEVANT ANTICIPATED RESPONSES.WRITE DOWN THE EVIDENCE THAT WILL BE USED. 25 Minutes to complete this task

JURORS: Begin work on your Research component of the trial. Begin working on the research placard. Get a laptop and login. Use the SWIFT site to access the outline and the terms for the placard. Labeled: “Legal and Judicial Terms” and “Juror Research Placard Outline” under the LOTF Mock Trial Tab in “Documents” Next, meet as a team and PICK THE 5 TERMS YOU ARE GOING TO USE FOR YOUR PLACARD **EACH JUROR MUST HAVE DIFFERENT WORDS FROM ONE ANOTHER** **NO OVERLAP** Once your words have been picked, use the Placard Outline on the SWIFT site to begin your placard. The placard must be FINISHED before you leave today. WITNESSES: Draft your reflection paper in your comp book. Remember this is a reflection paper written in your character’s voice. Describe how you feel before going in to the trial. Address the following questions in your 250 word description: In your opinion, what really happened on the island? (What did you see? What do you think happened?) Do you think Jack is innocent or guilty? Why? The reflection paper is DUE TOMORROW! STEP 1 STEP 2 STEP 3

ATTORNEYS: Once you have completed exchanging information with the witnesses you wrote questions and responses for… TODAY IS YOUR FINAL DAY FOR EVIDENCE SUBMISSION Meet with your team and discuss the following: Who are your “star” witnesses? Do you need more questions for them? Do you have ALL the evidence you need for the trial? Anything missing? Did anything new come up during your discussion with the witness? ALL the evidence that will be used in the trial MUST be put on to the butcher paper before the end of today’s class. Decide who will be responsible for questioning each witness when they are on the stand…ALSO decide who will present each piece of evidence in the trial. THEN: work on the homework that is due tomorrow: Prepare an evidence sheet with at least 3 pieces of evidence you plan to present during the trial. List the piece of evidence (quote, excerpt from the book, page #) and then explain how you intend to use this evidence to support your argument during the trial. STEP 1 STEP 2 STEP 3

Homework The following is DUE TOMORROW: Jurors: Your Placard needed to be finished by the end of the period. Tomorrow you will turn in your placard AND the 250 word essay in which you research 3 new legal and judicial terms and describe their relevance to you as a juror in a trial. Answer the following questions: 1. Where and when would you use these terms during the course of a trial? 2. Why is it important as a Juror that you understand the terms? Witnesses: 250 word pretrial reflection essay Attorneys: Evidence sheet with at least 3 pieces of evidence you plan to present during the trial. List the piece of evidence (quote, excerpt from the book, page #) and then explain how you intend to use this evidence to support your argument during the trial.
