3 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES Overview Scope (WBS 1.05.03.04) New 24” diameter Central Chilled Water (CCW) Supply, 24” diameter CCW Return & 4” diameter Compressed Air (CA) piping New piping extends between the existing CCW/CA mains on Rochester Street to a point at the edge of the NSLS-II Ring Building Construction site Total distance of approximately 1,100 feet (each) Includes all excavation/backfill, valves, appurtenances and connections to existing CCW and CA mains. Cost Contract amount = $1.436M Pre-bid estimate = $1.008M

7 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES Schedule

8 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES Issues & Risks Crossing Rochester Street Work starts with making taps to existing mains Traffic Control (constricted due to other road closures) Ability to close up road(s) prior to winter weather Trenching Rowland Street Minimize interference with F&O operations Ability to close up road(s) prior to winter weather Crossing Drainage Swale Must cross swale to make interface with RB contractor installed piping Weather dependent
9
9 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES Look Ahead Considering delaying start of construction to Spring ‘10 Likely schedule would be start 3/15, complete by 6/15 Minimizes risks of having to work through winter weather Takes advantage of available float in overall project schedule CCW piping can be completed as late as December 2010 without adversely affecting other project activities (Pentant 1 turnover Feb. ‘11) Would need to consider coordination with Ring Building Contractor installed CCW piping details (availability of blank flanges, etc.)
10
10 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES Conclusions Contract awarded & firm price established Material ordering in progress Looking to proceed in a manner that reduces project risks Even with rescheduling, projected construction schedule will have CCW piping available to NSLS-II site well in advance of required date (Pentant 1 turnover), Feb. 2011. (approximately 1yr. of float)
