Bible 101 Bible 101 – The Books of the Law Genesis In the Beginning…

Bible 101 Seth’s line Gen 4:25-26 5:4 Adam had son’s and daughters –We get to look at a genealogy today Not all are like this one It’s far from complete (5:4) there were many other sons and daughters Compare Seth’s line to Cain’s line from Chapter 4: –Cain’s family developed a society City, commerce, technology, entertainment – no mention of God –Seth’s family has no mention of its achievements, but it does have Enoch – wildly interesting Methuselah – name bears a promise Noah – everyone knows Most importantly… it’s the line the Abram comes from (after the flood) 4:26 – The First thing we notice in Seth line –This family worships God. Profane? Missler says that this could mean that, I don’t know where he gets that from. None of the def. I read had any negative connotations (Vines, BDB, JFB, Strongs)

Bible 101 Genesis 5 – the Line of Seth Gen 5:1-3 Vs. Adam – likeness of God –Seth – vs. 3 In Adams likeness – sin nature –Adam was not created perfect – he was innocent God is perfect, it not in his nature to sin Adam was created with a choice, put in a situation where that choice was a daily one – the tree was always there. –Love and worship are only true if you choose to do it –Today it’s the same, love, worship, service, obedience, holiness – are a choice Which family are we going to be part of? –Cain’s which busied itself with achievements? –Seth’s which worshiped the Lord?

Bible 101 Prophecy in the family names Gen 5:4-32 Look at the chart as we read vs. 4-32 What’s in a Name? –Adam – Man, human being –Seth - appointed –Enosh - mortal –Kenan - sorrow –Mahalalel – the blessed God –Jared – shall come down –Enoch – commencement, teaching –Methuselah – his death shall bring (look down at your chart) –Lamech – lament, despairing –Noah – comfort, rest If you smooth it out it says: Man is appointed mortal sorrow but the blessed God shall come down teaching that His death shall bring the despairing comfort and rest.

Bible 101 Enoch Gen 5:24 Enoch –Walked with God (Like Adam?) –He was not, for God took him. Some say he may have been raptured (Elijah too…) Heb 11:5 (Faith Hall of Fame) –By Faith he was taken away and didn’t see death. –His testimony was that he pleased God. Jude 14: a little more of his testimony –The 2 nd coming of Jesus Some say these men are the 2 witnesses from Rev. 11:3-13 –If this is true then he wasn’t raptured – both witnesses will die They will be resurrected 3.5 days later Vs. 12 - Then they will be raptured –Others say it will be Moses and Elijah (appeared to Jesus on the mountain)

Bible 101 Walking with God Enoch style If He could do it, we can –He did it for 300 years –No Bible –No Holy Spirit –In a culture that was dark and evil (Godless) Relationship with God –Pleased God? How? No Law, No Salvation Heb 11:5 approached Him by faith –w/o faith it’s impossible to please God Believed that He is –Psalm 46 - Be still and know that He is God Diligently sought Him –Heard from God Jude 14 reminds us that Enoch was a prophet –Lists 3 specific things. Not to mention that He knew about the coming flood judgement and that the timing of that flood was linked to his sons life. Do you hear from God? –We should expect to hear from God… His voice in our heads, from His word too We won’t hear from Him if we don’t have a relationship with Him –Spend time with Him –Listen – time spent quietly waiting for Him to speak What would our relationship be like with our wives or husbands if we didn’t spend any time together?
