2 India is about one-third the size of the U.S., it is located on the continent of Asia Climate: Alpine to temperate to subtropical monsoon. Languages: Hindi, English, and 16 other official languages.

3 The religious demographics of India, show a predominance of Hinduism (an umbrella term which includes many sub-denominations), accounting for 80% of the population. The second largest religion is Islam (13%).

5 The Cuisine of India is characterized by its sophisticated and subtle use of many spices and herbs. Considered by some to be one of the world's most diverse cuisines. Though a significant portion of Indian food is vegetarian, many traditional Indian dishes also include chicken, goat, lamb, fish. Beef is not eaten by most Hindus, while ham and pork are not consumed by Muslims.

Sawantwadi Crafts The city of Sawantwadi is famous for the craft of lacquer ware, which was introduced here around the end of the 17th century. Various schools teaching this craft were started in Sawantwadi during the 18th and the 19th centuries. The lacquer ware is now available in a wide range of products and concentrates on traditional hand painted and lacquered furniture and light fittings.
