1 Anatomy & Physiology

2 Introduction Important to know Why are these things important?
Basic anatomical terminology Basic structures and functions Skeletal Muscular Circulatory Respiratory Nervous Why are these things important?

3 Directional Terminology
Anterior- Posterior- Cranial- Caudal- Dorsal- Ventral- Proximal- Distal

4 Directional Terminology
Anterior- the front of the animal Posterior- the rear of the animal Cranial- towards the head Caudal- towards the tail Dorsal- Along the back or uppermost surface Ventral- along the belly or undermost surface Proximal-part of the limb closest to the body Distal-part of the limb furthest from the body

5 Three-Dimensional Planes
Frontal Plane- Divides the animal into dorsal and ventral parts. Median Plane- Divides the animal into equal, symmetrical right and left halves. Sagittal Plane Plane that is parallel to the median plane. Transverse Plane- Plane that divides the animal into cranial and caudal parts

6 Surface Planes Superficial Deep Closer to the surface
Further from the surface
