2 Sales Tax – calculated by. finding a certain percent
Sales Tax – calculated by finding a certain percent of the purchase price; the percentage answer is then added back to the original price to find the total cost

3 Tip – money given to someone. to show appreciation for
Tip – money given to someone to show appreciation for a service provided (waiter, hair stylist, valet, etc.)

4 Commission – money paid to. an employee in addition
Commission – money paid to an employee in addition to their salary; usually based on a percent they sell (car salesman, real estate agent, etc.)

5 Calculating Sales Tax:

A salesperson receives a salary of $650 each week, plus a commission of 4% of all sales. In one week, his sales are $1,250. What does the salesperson earn that week? Total Earnings = salary + commission Step One: Find the commission .04 • $1250 = $50.00 (commission)
