2 Terms and Names Federalism: power is shared between the central (or federal ) government and the states.

3 Terms and Names Federalists: people who supported the Constitution
Antifederalists: people who opposed the Constitution. They thought too much power was taken away from states and people were not guaranteed rights.

4 Terms and Names The Federalist papers: described why people should support the Constitution. George Mason: wanted a bill of rights added to the Constitution.

5 The Constitution Bill of Rights: 1st ten amendments to the Constitution.

6 Comparison Federalists: Wanted stronger national government.
Wanted 1 person to lead executive branch Antifederalists: Stronger state governments. Feared a strong executive. Both: Wanted a Bill of Rights 3 Branches of government.

7 #3 Main Ideas (a) They would not ratify (approve) until a bill of rights was added (b) Both sides used pamphlets and speeches. (c) It was the key to getting both sides to support and ratify the Constitution.
