2  Aviation Selection Test Battery  Used by the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard  3 Forms (Form 3, Form 4, and Form 5) ◦ Different questions, but same format, subtests, and number of questions. ◦ Retake 30 days after 1 st test; retake 90 days after 2 nd (Different form each time)  Time Length≈ 2 hrs and 30 mins

3  6 subtests/parts: ◦ Math Skills Test  30 questions, 25 mins ◦ Reading Skills Test  27 questions, 25 mins ◦ Mechanical Comprehension Test  30 questions, 15 mins ◦ Spatial Apperception Test  25 questions, 10 mins ◦ Aviation and Nautical Information Test  30 questions, 15 mins ◦ Aviation Supplemental Test  34 questions, 25 mins

4  Arithmetic and algebra, with some geometry  Equations and word problems  Ex: ◦ What is 20% of 500? ◦ 5 shirts and 3 ties cost $52 and each tie costs $4, what is the cost of a shirt?

5  Read paragraph or passage.  Vocabulary and synonyms.  Watch out for the word “NOT”  Ex: ◦ Xenophobe most nearly means:  A) a person who is afraid of foreigners or strangers.  B) a person who dos not like foreigners or strangers.  C) an element that does not mix with inert gases.

6  High School Physics course type questions  Gases and liquids along with pressure, volume, and velocity.  Electricity, weight, fulcrums, and pulleys.  Ex: ◦ When a liquid is changed to vapor, the process is called:  A) evaporation.  B) distillation.  C) dehydration.

7  Match external and internal views of an aircraft based on visual information about its direction and orientation relative to the ground.  Pitch, bank, and heading.  Ex: ◦ Nose down, right, out to sea ◦ Zero, left, down the coastline

8  Knowledge of aviation history, nautical terminology and procedures.  Aircraft components, aerodynamic principles, flight rules and regulations.  Ex: ◦ What are the four aerodynamic forces acting on an aircraft in flight? ◦ The Latin phrase Semper Fidelis is the motto of?

9  Variety of questions that are similar to other parts.  Basically is REVIEW  Ex: ◦ When a liquid is changed to vapor, the process is called:  A) condensation.  B) evaporation.  C) dehydration.

10  Academic Qualifications Rating (AQR) ◦ Predicts academic performance ◦ Strongest influence is Math Skills Test ◦ Scores Range from 1-9; Min for Navy=4, USMC=5  Pilot Flight Aptitude Rating (PFAR) ◦ Predicts primary flight performance for aviators ◦ Influence is Aviation and Nautical Information and Spatial Apperception Tests ◦ Scores Range from 1-9; Min for Navy=5, USMC=6

11  Flight Officer Flight Aptitude Rating (FOFAR) ◦ Predicts primary flight school performance for NFOs ◦ Strongest influence is Math Skills Test ◦ Scores Range from 1-9; Min for Navy=5, USMC=6  Officer Aptitude Rating (OAR) ◦ Math, Reading, and Mechanical Comprehension ◦ Scores Range from 20-80
