This castle is two-century work in process. Once a hunting lodge for Charles I, and later expanded to a palace by Phillip II in the 1560’s. Now used as a summer retreat for Europeans. A range of different architects took a roll in the building of this structure.

Despite its Baroque façade, the present cathedral is mainly Romanesque. One of the finest churches in Spain Construction began in 1060 in the reign of Alfonso VI and was completed in 1211. The arches over the side doors represent the Last Judgment, with Christ in the center.

Most popular pilgrimage destination; located on a rugged mountain not far from Barcelona The statue of the Black Virgin was carved by St. Luke around 50 A.D. In the 18 th century, almost the entire sanctuary was destroyed during the Napoleonic invasion—but later restored due to strong devotion. In 1592, the grand basilica of Montserrat was consecrated.
