2 BACKGROUND 1.Announcement : 1 st July, 2006 2.Objectives : * Production of nucleus planting material of Citrus * Human Resource Development (H.R.D.) programme 3.Sanction : 30 th October, 2006 Director, N.R.C. for Citrus, Nagpur as the Mission Leader 4.Inauguration : 4 th January, 2007 Brain storming session held with 207 participants (State Agri. / Hort. Officers and citrus growers) Technology Mission on Citrus for Vidarbha (Under Prime Minister’s Package for Vidarbha)

3 Outcome of Brain Storming Session Citrus growers pointed out : Acute shortage of quality planting material Non-availability of inputs required Need for development of markets Crop insurance Creation of irrigation facility Post-harvest management of citrus fruits Skill development amongst the citrus growers Technology Mission on Citrus for Vidarbha

5 Facilities Created Publications : Technology Calendars : 4 published (Marathi, Hindi and English) 1) Production of disease free planting material 2) Nutrient management in citrus 3) Citrus insect pests: Damage and Management 4)Citrus disease management These calendars were based on NRCC developed technologies and distributed free of cost to the trainees Technology Mission on Citrus for Vidarbha

7 Works Undertaken (2006-07) Objective No. 1 : Production of Nucleus Planting Material of Citrus Target Production of Nucleus planting material : 3,00,000 Work taken up * Primary nursery : * Seeds sown - 3,50,000 seeds sown - Nagpur mandarin - 1.5 lakh - Sweet orange - 0.5 lakh - Acid lime - 1.0 lakh The plants will be ready for distribution in June-July, 2008 Technology Mission on Citrus for Vidarbha

19 Demonstrations (At citrus growers orchards) Technologies – to be demonstrated 1. Raising of Phytophthora free citrus nursery 2. Rejuvenation of declining citrus orchards 3. Package of practices viz., weed control, fruit drop control,fertilizer application, pest and disease management, etc. (Fund provision of Rs.15 lakh/year to cover all the 11 districts of Vidarbha is made) Technology Mission on Citrus for Vidarbha

20 Kisan Mela / Rashtriya Kisan Mela Kisan Melas Two (2) in each district/year in cropping season (Ambia bahar and Mrig bahar) Rashtriya Kisan Mela One (1)/year at Head Quarater of T.M.C. (NRC for Citrus, Nagpur) (Fund provision of Rs. 24.50 lakhs i.e. @ Rs.1 lakh each for one ‘Kisan Mela’ and Rs. 2.5 lakh for one ‘Rashtriya Kisan Mela’ has been made) Technology Mission on Citrus for Vidarbha
