Internal Sources of Information Internal sources ◦ Within a business each department produces information which is of value to other departments. 3

Finance 4 What the department is responsible for. ◦ Revenues, income, costs, expenditure, future costs and expenditure. What other departments will use this information? ◦ Human Resources – how would they use this information? ◦ Marketing – how would they use this information? ◦ Purchasing – how would they use this information?

5 Human Resources 5 What the department is responsible for. ◦ Provides information about the people that an organisation employs. Typical information will be their contact details, jobs, grades and skills. What other departments will use this information? ◦ Finance– how would they use this information? ◦ Marketing – how would they use this information? ◦ Purchasing – how would they use this information?

6 6 Purchasing 6 What the department is responsible for. ◦ Records who supplies which products to the organisation, how often and for what price. This information comes from a document called a purchase order. What other departments will use this information? ◦ Finance– how would they use this information? ◦ Marketing – how would they use this information? ◦ Manufacturing – how would they use this information?

Other internal sources of information Sales Opposite to purchasing – data comes from a sales order – what else is this called? Manufacturing Records resources used and timescales. Administration Central administration. 7

Tax records, national insurance etc. Commercially provided Databases Many information businesses take publicly available data, add in their knowledge of an industry and then process that information to provide information. Newspaper archives that allow searches. Research Research can be used to find advice or information to improve decision making.
