1 Study Strategy: SENTENCE WRITING BUILDING AND RECOGNIZING CONTEXT AND CONNOTATION

2  Poor- The man was abominable for what he did.  Ok- The abominable man knocked the old lady down.  Ideal- The man’s actions were abominable, for he first stole a gun then used it to hold up a bank.

3  Poor- I wore a monocle.  Ok- The monocle that I wore to see broke.  Ideal- The monocle, which only covers my left eye, had a scratch on the lens.

4  Poor- The city was annihilated.  Ok- After the fires, the buildings in the town were annihilated.  Ideal- The hurricane left the town annihilated: buildings destroyed, no electric, no running water, and numerous dead.

5 VOC TASK Choose five words your partner defined and write a poor, ok, and ideal sentence for each of the three. That is a total of fifteen sentences.
