3 Trade routes from Middle East & Asia went to Med. Sea, then to Italy via merchants. Goods and ideas spread into Italy’s cities. Merchants, bankers & nobles became wealthy. They became patrons = used $ to encourage, pay & develop art & science. Most talented people in Italy.
