High Bay Operations4 GLAST LAT ProjectMarch 2005 Building A-59 - LAT Area of Operations LAT Area – approximately 40 ft x 60 ft floor area for assembly operations and storage LAT Clean Tent – approximately 15 ft x 16 ft floor area for assembly and functional test operations with additional “non-clean” area for EGSE LAT Clean Room – approximately 21 ft x 33 ft floor area T-Slotted Floor Area – approximately 25 ft x 25 ft available floor area for turn-over operations

High Bay Operations6 GLAST LAT ProjectMarch 2005 Unpacking/Packing LAT Instrument Location – Building A-59 –LAT Area –LAT Clean Tent GSE Requirements –Overhead Crane (capacity 20,000 lbs) –Forklift (NRL) –LAT Lift Fixture (SLAC) –LAT Grid Perimeter Ring (SLAC) –LAT Test Interface Plate (SLAC) –LAT Test Base (SLAC) –Personnel Platforms (NRL and SLAC) –Facility Ground (NRL) Mechanical Configuration –LAT Instrument will be oriented with the Z-axis vertical (+Z up) throughout this operation Electrical Configuration –EGSE required for Limited Performance Testing following unpacking –EGSE required for Aliveness Testing following packing

High Bay Operations7 GLAST LAT ProjectMarch 2005 Unpacking /Packing LAT Instrument - continued Potential Obstacles –None Facility-Specific Issues –Overhead Crane (20,000 lb) will be used to support the unpacking operation –LAT Instrument must be protected from dust and particles before it is placed inside the LAT Clean Tent –LAT GSE can be stored in the LAT Area –EGSE can be stationed anywhere in the LAT Area adjacent to the LAT Clean Tent Issues –None

High Bay Operations8 GLAST LAT ProjectMarch 2005 Installation/Removal of LAT Radiators Location – Building A-59 –LAT Clean Tent –T-Slotted Floor Area GSE Requirements –Overhead Crane (capacity 20,000 lbs) –LAT Lift Fixture (SLAC) –LAT Dust Tent (SLAC) –LAT Grid Perimeter Ring (SLAC) –LAT Test Interface Plate (SLAC) –LAT Transport Cart (SLAC) –LAT Spacer/Test Stand for rotation (SLAC) –Personnel Platforms (NRL and SLAC) –Facility Ground (NRL) Mechanical Configuration –LAT Instrument will be oriented with the Z-Axis horizontal (+X up) while the radiators are being installed/removed onto/from the LAT Instrument Electrical Configuration –EGSE required for Limited Performance Testing and is stationed outside of the LAT Clean Tent

High Bay Operations9 GLAST LAT ProjectMarch 2005 Installation of LAT Radiators - continued Potential Obstacles –None Facility-Specific Issues –Both trolleys of the Overhead Crane (20,000 lb) will be used to support rotation of the LAT Instrument in conjunction with the LAT Spacer/Test Stand –Overhead crane will also be used for radiator installation –LAT Instrument must be protected from dust and particles before it is placed inside the LAT Clean Tent Issues –Need to develop rotation procedure by running pathfinder activities with the LAT Spacer/Test Stand and a mass simulator of the LAT Instrument in conjunction with the NRL crane
