Behemoth Job. 40: 15-24

Context of Job 40  God is answering Job with some harsh questioning. Basically questioning him about considering creation (28-40)  We comes come to chapter 40 in the middle of God using 14 animals to question Job.  The 13 th animal (Behemoth)

The Traditional Explanation of Behemoth  Elephant  Hippopotamus  Dinosaur  Mythical creature

The meaning of the word (behemoth)  Behemoth is a transliterated word not a translated word  Behemoth is o plural word (oth is plural in Hebrew)  The word means “animals”  This is a composite of animals in to one

(Rev 13:1-2) And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

“he eateth grass as an ox.” (Dan 4:15-16) Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth: Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.

“he eateth grass as an ox.” (Dan 4:32-33) And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws. clinical lycanthropy

Behemoth’s power “He moveth his tail like a cedar” (Rev 12:4) And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

Behemoth’s sexuality (Job 40:17) He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. (Dan 11:37) Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.

Behemoth’s source of power “He is the chief of the ways of God” (Eze 28:12) Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.

The only defense against behemoth (Job 40:19) “he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him”. (2Th 2:8) And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: (Rev 19:15) And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations:

Leviathan Job 41

Leviathan The Hebrew word used here is transliterated and means joined or united serpent

Comparing Scripture to Scripture (Psa 74:14) Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness. (Rev 12:3) And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

(Rev 12:9) And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. ( Isa 27:1) In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

Comparing Scripture to Scripture (Job 41:4) Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever? (Dan 9:27) And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

(Isa 28:14-15) Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem. Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement… (Rev 6:2) And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer… (Rev 6:8) And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

(Job 41:5) Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens? (Rev 20:2) And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

(Job 41:6) Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants? (Rev 18:3) For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
