Accessibility, ADA, and Section 508 Web-based Intranet and Internet Information and Applications (1194.22) –Verbal tags or identification of graphics –Text labels or descriptors for graphics Video or Multimedia Products (1194.24) –Pertains to video programs, narrated slide production, and computer generated presentations –Captioning and audio description –Shall be open or closed captioned 8

Accessibility, ADA, and Section 508 As stated in CCE/CSUS Attachment 1 –Provide a text equivalent for every non-text element –Create tables that transform gracefully –Ensure all pages are accessible –Ensure that moving, blinking, scrolling, or auto-updating objects or pages may be paused or stopped –Mark up documents with the proper structural elements 9

Accessibility, ADA, and Section 508 As stated in CCE/CSUS Attachment 1 –Provide clear and consistent navigation mechanisms Orientation information, navigation bars, a site map, etc. –Clearly identify the target of each link 10

Reusability of existing applications in new platforms or new technology systems Check software specifications for portability attributes Determine compatibility and commonality attributes of software programs The basic question is –Can your existing eLearning software be transported to a new platform? 12

Portability and Portability Standards Can we reinstall files onto another learning management system? Can the files be used on a different processor system? –32 bit vs. 64 bit, etc. Some premium editions allow portability only Portability testing from one computer to another is a basic requirement –Trial software can be used in most cases 13
