1 DOSSIER PREPARATION MENTORING PROGRAM Session #4 June 23, 2015  CV and Summary Statements (feedback)  Review Teaching Statement of Endeavors and Supporting Materials  Discuss Research Statement of Endeavors and Supporting Materials (what counts as scholarship?)

2 Part 4-1: Research/Scholarship Statement of Endeavors  An analysis of the quality and value (impact) of your research  Should include a description of your research interest Explain in simple terms what your research focus is Why is it of interest to you Why is it important to the University (including Department and School), the State/Region, community, field/discipline Helpful to address the University’s mission/vision (as well as the School)

3 Part 4-2: Supporting Materials BIBLIOGRAPHY Bibliography Guidelines (per Page 18 of the UH Criteria/Guidelines)  Most recent works first  Make clear division between work published/completed since your last promotion and/or tenure or since initial hire (if not promoted before) and earlier work (not at UH)  Provide statement of authorship/research norms in discipline (example: explain multiple authors, 1 st and last author, team science, collaborations)  Separate bibliography into categories which may be adapted to your discipline

4 Bibliography  Joint author works – should indicate estimate of your contributions (at least general role is helpful, need not be exact %)  Quantify work if helpful: Journal impact factors; # of citations (ex: Google Scholar)  Unpublished work - accepted for publication (submit documentation: submitted, conditionally accepted, in press, etc.)  Do not include in preparation or under review (may be explained in narrative section if needed)

5 Publication Categories (examples)  Scientific peer-reviewed journal publications (most significant type of publication)  Other peer-reviewed journal publications  Other non-peer reviewed journal publications  Abstracts  Books, Book Chapters  Textbooks  Electronic Media

6 Presentation Categories  Local – Refereed  Local – Invited  National – Refereed  National – Invited  International – Refereed  International - Invited

7 Grants  Separate current and completed grants  Include: Title of Grant Role  Include name of PI (if not you) Funding Agency Project Period Amount Awarded Brief description of purpose of grant

8 Other Scholarly Activities (examples)  Editorial boards  National study sections  National advisory committees  Peer reviewer (manuscripts/grants)  Clinical faculty: Quality assurance efforts See other examples in M-series criteria

9 TO DO BEFORE NEXT SESSION: Reminders: Send us your Who am I summary and CV (if you did not already do so) Continuing working on Teaching section Consult with Chair, send list of at least 3 external reviewers to Chair Review annual evaluation feedback from your Chair Work on draft of Research/Scholarship Statement of Endeavors (1-3 pages) Gather supporting materials (bibliography) for research/scholarship section NEXT SESSION JUNE 30
