4 Slide 4 B O N N E V I L L E P O W E R A D M I N I S T R A T I O N Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) Systems VRF systems, either heat-pump or heat-recovery models, provide heating and air-conditioning, with: 1.Inverter driven outdoor-unit compressors and condenser fans, providing improved part-load and low-ambient performance, 2.Multiple indoor-units with multi-speed fans, electronic expansion valves and integrated thermostats, 3. Refrigerant piping network for heat transfer, 4.Integrated control system, and 5.Ventilation provided by VRF system, natural ventilation or a dedicated outside air system (DOAS).

5 Slide 5 B O N N E V I L L E P O W E R A D M I N I S T R A T I O N VC HP Sub-Committee 1.Sub-Committee of the Regional Technical Forum (RTF) 2.Purpose: develop and recommend VC HP measures with a)high consensus methodology to estimate and verify electrical savings b)specification for cost effective installations that ensures persistent savings 3.Minutes and presentations are posted at: http://www.nwcouncil.org/energy/rtf/subcommittees/vchp/Default.htm http://www.nwcouncil.org/energy/rtf/subcommittees/vchp/Default.htm

6 Slide 6 B O N N E V I L L E P O W E R A D M I N I S T R A T I O N School VRF System Best Practices 1.What is required to schedule VRF systems thru a central EMS or clock system? 2.How can persistent integration be ensured? 3.What are the load diversity requirements to make VRF-HR systems cost effective? 4.How efficient are over-sized systems? 5.How are savings represented if baseline has no cooling? 6.How effective are optimal start/stop features?
