1. School opens at 8:45 am. Children are left to school by parents or by bus. For first two terms children stay indoors before lessons begin. In summer term they go outdoors before lessons. At 9:10 children line up and come in to begin lessons. Children hang up schoolbags and take in items for snack time. They put their photo up for self registration. Children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack for example – bread, fruit, milk, water

2. Morning session: 9:10 – 11:00 am Children have large group “greeting time” which starts the day. This includes a weather record, the timetable for the day and morning prayers. 9:30 – 10:00 am on two mornings per week children have a specialist coach for Irish language and drama. This is followed by one hour of active learning which can be individual or small group activities. Children engage in a structured activity or free choice activity and the teacher and assistant work along with them Children can eat their snack at anytime during active learning.

3. 12:00 noon children go for lunch to school canteen. Some children bring a lunch from home and others get a school dinner. Everyone stays in school. 11:10 – 12:00 noon - Formal teaching of curriculum. This time will always have a period of literacy which is presented in a cross curricular way and will involve the use of active learning methodologies. 11:00 – 11:10 outdoor play time 10:40am – Children gather on mat for story time. Different aspects of the book are discussed.eg. setting, characters, title, blurb.

4. 12:30 –12:55 Second period of outdoor play. 12:55 – 2:00 pm Formal teaching of the curriculum. This session will have an emphasis on teaching of numeracy which will be presented through a cross- curricular approach and active teaching and learning methods. Children choose a book from the library to read quietly for 5 – 10 mins

5. 2:00 pm – Children collect their lunch boxes, schoolbags and coats and get ready to be collected by parents. Teacher escorts them to the main door. One morning each week children engage in structured physical activity. This includes ball skills, gymnastics, dance and games.
