2 2 FEDERALLY EMPLOYED WOMEN What is FEW? You and Me = Us Grassroots Organization ONLY NATIONAL ORGANIZATION WHOSE SOLE CONCERN IS FEDERAL WOMEN THE ONLY ORGANIZATION THAT MONITORS LEGISLATION PARTICULAR OF CONCERN TO WOMEN EMPLOYED IN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

3 3 FEDERALLY EMPLOYED WOMEN Organized in 1968 – To support and compliment the Executive Order 11375 (FWP Implementation) Nucleus group in Washington, D.C. Over 3,000 Members – Divided into 10 Regions – Approximately 100 Chapters 40 Years of Training

4 FEDERALLY EMPLOYED WOMEN End Sex Discrimination in Government Service – Enhance career opportunities through training & networking – Assist Employees Discriminated Against Because of Sex – Increase Job Opportunities for Women in Government – Work in Coalition with Other Organizations & Unions with Similar Goals – Provide leadership training and opportunities to all – regardless of grade 4

7 7 FEDERALLY EMPLOYED WOMEN Membership – Regular Members Anyone that supports the purposes of FEW – US Government – District of Columbia government – Contractors – Federal & Retired Federal Employee – Military – Active Duty, Reserves & National Guard Join a FEW Chapter Amount – National dues are $45.00 per year New members can join anytime –

8 FEDERALLY EMPLOYED WOMEN – Lifetime membership One-time payment of $300.00 to National – After 5 consecutive years of membership Chapters and Regions may assess dues – Diamond membership Upgrade to Lifetime membership One-time payment of $200.00 to National – National Honorary Member For a One Year Period Selected by 2/3 Majority Vote of National Board – Outside FEW Not Eligible to Hold Office or Vote 8

11 FEDERALLY EMPLOYED WOMEN NATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS GOVERNING BODY Purpose: Manage the Affairs, Set Policy, and Control the Funds and Property of the Organization Board Consist of: – National Elected Officers – Immediate Past President – Standing Committee Chairpersons – Regional Managers (10 Region Managers) – One Regional Representative For Each 5 Chapters of a Region Meet Twice a Fiscal Year – July (Annual Membership Meeting) And Feb/Spring 11

15 15 FEDERALLY EMPLOYED WOMEN COMPLIANCE Monitor Policies and practices of agencies and activities – For conformance with requirements of statutes, executive orders, and regulations Take action to assist agencies and activities in correcting identified deficiencies. Provide guidance on compliance issues to FEW members who request assistance. Guidance for Compliance Chairs included in FEW’s NPPM, Compliance Chapter

16 16 FEDERALLY EMPLOYED WOMEN DIVERSITY Diversity is appreciating our similarities as well as our differences. FEW’s philosophy regarding Diversity is all about achieving results. FEW believes in a proactive approach to Diversity. FEW recognizes that there is strength in Diversity. FEW believes that cultural biases can be overcome. Diversity then becomes a strength as we pursue the common goals.

Prevents intercultural conflicts. 4. Eliminates communication barriers. 5. Articulates the similarities and differences among cultures.
