GETTING READY Park your vehicle midway between two (2) uprights in a space that is 24 feet long and eight (8) feet wide. Your entire vehicle must be completely inside the space, and you cannot make contact with any of the uprights to the rear or front of your vehicle, cross over the painted line, or go up onto or over the curb. You have one (1) attempt to successfully park your vehicle using no more than three (3) adjustments. Note: Vehicles equipped with Advanced Parking Guidance Systems (self parking vehicles) can be used for testing; however, the self parking feature must be turned off and is not permitted to be activated during the Road Test. The examiner will be your only passenger during the Road Test.

1. CHECK YOUR REARVIEW MIRROR AND DRIVER-SIDE MIRROR, SIGNAL TOWARD THE SPACE TO ENSURE ANOTHER CAR IS NOT RIDING ON YOUR TAIL. AS YOU APPROACH IT, SLOW DOWN, AND STOP. IF ANOTHER MOTORIST RIDES UP ON YOUR REAR, SIMPLY MAINTAIN YOUR POSITION AND KEEP SIGNALING. YOU MIGHT EVEN NEED TO ROLL DOWN YOUR WINDOW AND WAVE THE OTHER DRIVER AROUND; THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE REALIZED YOU'RE TRYING TO PARK. 2. Line up your vehicle with the parked vehicle directly in front of your desired spot. Staying two or three feet away from the car. Position your vehicle parallel to the parked car, aligning your rear bumpers. Put your vehicle in reverse. Keeping both hands on the wheel, turn your wheel all the way to the right and slowly drift back creating a 45 degree angle with your car and the car in front of you. Stop when your front door passes the rear of that car. Constantly move your head using your mirrors and checking for traffic. 3. Turn your steering wheel half way to the left so that your tires are straight. Slowly drift back until your front end will safely clear the car in front of you. Again stop your vehicle to adjust your steering wheel. Check your mirrors for pedestrians and the road for moving cars. 4. Turn your steering wheel all the way to the left. Slowly drift back checking to see that you have cleared the car in front of you and that you must now monitor the car behind you. At this point you may have completed a successful attempt at parallel parking or you may need to make a few minor adjustments. 5. You may need to turn your wheel toward the curb to straighten your vehicle in the spot. Remember to allow enough room for your car and the cars around you to exit into traffic. Also, be cautious of the traffic around you as you get out of your car. When exiting your parallel parking space, remember to give yourself enough room in front, use your left turn signal to make others aware of your intentions, look over your left shoulder for pedestrians and other traffic.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! Remember, it is important that you practice this numerous times with your instructor and/or your driving coach. Be very patient. If you start to get frustrated, drive away and come back at another time. PennDot sites are usually available after hours, be courteous to others when you practice there. Always leave the PennDot DMV site in perfect condition and ready for the next driver.
