3 What to Expect HOMEWORK – not daily, but frequent ESSAYS – about 4 a year (narrative, argument, informative) BOOK REPORTS – possibly READING AT HOME – trade books, textbook DAILY NOTEBOOKS– journals, notes, vocab, tracking TEXTBOOKS – students get a copy of Holt Elements of Literature (yellow) & Elements of Language (green)

4 Grading 80% Assessment 20% Classwork/Homework Grades - average about 2 a week Essays - plan for about a month

5 ELA Trade Books Call of the Wild Freak the Mighty Seedfolks Subject to change…

6 Advanced ELA Trade Books The Illustrated Man – Ray Bradbury As You Like It – Shakespeare The Giver – Lois Lowry * These are required by the district *

7 Tardy/Absence It is important for your child to be here and on time to every class. 3 Tardies = Lunch Detention Absences: For every day absent, your child has that many days to make up the work.

8 Helping Out at Home Place to complete assignments at home Keep textbooks in a safe place Constant Communication Checking Grades – asking for clarification, assignments are usually specific
