www.cihc.ca Who Are We? CIHC-ResearchNet is a Sub-Committee of the Research and Evaluation (R&E) Committee of the Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (CIHC) CIHC is a national hub for interprofessional education and collaboration in healthcare practice and patient-centred care

www.cihc.ca Vision A National Interprofessional Health Research Network of:  Health program students,  Faculty/Educators,  Researchers,  Clinicians/ Practitioners,  Administrators, and  Organizational leaders engaged in collaborative research and knowledge translation to advance Interprofessional Education and Practice (IPE&P).

www.cihc.ca Goals To build national capacity for and facilitate IPE&P research To provide a forum for networking, discussion, information exchange, and research To foster new, and enhance existing, interprofessional collaborations among and between those who are conducting/funding IP research studies To foster the development of IECPCP by providing a vehicle for promoting the research-based evidence for best-practice IPE&P

www.cihc.ca Why CIHC-ResearchNet? CIHC-ResearchNet members are integral to a network of researchers in IPE&P aimed at fostering:  Access to IP researchers/experts for advice and mentorship  New collaborative partnerships and research opportunities  Timely knowledge exchange, dissemination and translation  Awareness of national and jurisdictional developments in IPE&P

www.cihc.ca Network Development Strategic Plan The creation of CIHC-ResearchNet will involve 3 interrelated phases—formative, evolving, and maturing. Phase 1- Formative: Strategic plan, surveys, database and website development - 1 year Phase 2- Evolving: Network promotion: nationally, internationally, and beyond healthcare; knowledge exchange & dissemination - 1 year Phase 3: Maturing: Establishment of local chapters, collaborative research projects, hub of information on research in IPE&P – 6 months to 1 year

www.cihc.ca Phase 1-Formative Step A: Preliminary Network Structure Development a Strategic Plan for each phase of the network – Actions: Environmental scan; SWOTs analysis (SWOTs is an acronym for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats). – Determining internal strengths and weaknesses – Determining external opportunities and threats » Assessing what resources are available and how any existing gaps can be bridged » Identifying the impact of any relevant constraints to the planning process itself (time, money, people availability) Creating an action plan – Who do what, when and how

www.cihc.ca Phase 1-Formative Step B: Survey Obtaining some core information about IPE/IPP research in Canada Core Required Information Includes: the numbers of researchers (along with their contact information if possible) their research areas of interest their source of funding – Actions: Connection with IP Offices – Obtaining information about students (under/graduate, post-doctoral) and faculty/educators who are conducting (or willing to conduct) research on IPE/IPP Connection with CIHC Mainstream – Obtaining information about clinician/practitioners, administrators, and organizational leaders who are conducting research on IPE/IPP Connection with NaHSSA – Obtaining information about students who are conducting research on IPE/IPP

www.cihc.ca Phase 1- Formative Step C: Database Creating an initial database –Actions: Connection with the stakeholders –Membership with CIHC-ResearchNet Develop a database structure

www.cihc.ca Phase 2- Evolving Step A: National and International CIHC- ResearchNet Promotion Step B: Expanding the network within and beyond the health institution/agencies Step C: knowledge exchange & dissemination

www.cihc.ca Phase 3- Maturing Step A: Establishment of local chapters, collaborative research projects Step B: Hub of information on research in IPE&P Step C: Interagency Connection –Connection with local/provincial/national health and social policymakers and decision- makers

www.cihc.ca Where Are We At Right Now? CIHC-ResearchNet is in its first phase of network formation. The CIHC-ResearchNet working group is well organized and meets regularly through monthly teleconferences We continue to administer surveys to academic and health service delivery organizations as a means of gathering more information about their research endeavours and interests in joining the CIHC-ResearchNet
