2 Who does the shopping in your family? Where do they do the shopping?

3 Most people do their shopping in a local supermarket.
Supermarket is a large self-service shop selling all kinds of food and household goods. It is often part of a chain that owns and runs supermarkets in other towns.

4 Before you go to the supermarket, it´s a good idea to make a shopping list (= list of all the things you want to buy).

5 At the entrance you get a shopping trolley (cart) or a shopping basket.

6 Then you push your trolley around the supermarket and put the products in it.

7 Various products are separated into different sections/aisles, so that you can easily find everything you need. Packaged food aisles in the supermarket

15 You need less time if you do the shopping in the morning because there are fewer shoppers in the supermarket at that time. You don´t have to queue at the checkout (a counter where you pay for things).

16 BARCODE A cashier scans all the products you buy and tells you how much you have to pay.

17 You can pay in cash or by credit card.
If you want to pay by credit card, you have to swipe your card through an electronic scanning machine.

18 After you pay at the checkout , you are given a receipt showing all the items you have bought.

19 Where do you put the products you buy?
