IP2.13.3 What is power? © Oxford University Press 2011 In the scientific sense of transferring energy, a powerful person or device can do a lot of work in a short space of time. Power is the work done in a given time (or the rate of doing work).

The higher the power the hotter the ring gets. This is because more energy is being transformed from electrical energy to heat energy each second.

This means it can accelerate more rapidly to a high speed. Which of these cars are more powerful and which do you think would accelerate quicker and have a higher top speed?
