1 Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust NHS National Staff Survey 2012 Key Findings February 2013

2 Background Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust undertook the NHS National Staff Survey 2012 between October and December for a sample of its staff The sample data is used by the Survey Coordination Centre (Picker Institute) in the NHS Benchmark Reports In the 2012 reports there are 28 key findings (scores) and a measure of staff engagement, a lower number than in 2011 (38) due to the reduction in size of the 2012 questionnaire and number of questions

3 Background The sample response rate for the Trust was 51% in 2012, which is average when compared against other mental health/learning disability trusts The 2012 response rate has not changed from the 51% in 2011 The NHS Benchmark Report reports present the data under the four Staff Pledges and two additional themes of Staff Satisfaction and Equality and Diversity This presentation highlights the key findings from the NHS Benchmark Report

5 Key findings where the Trust is in the best 20% of Trusts 1.KF 4 - Effective team working – (3.91) 2.KF 17 - Percentage experiencing physical violence from staff in the last 12 months – (2%) 3.KF 19 - Percentage experiencing harassment, bullying or abuse from staff in the last 12 months – (18%) 4.KF 22 - Percentage able to contribute towards improvements at work – (75%)

6 Key findings where the Trust is in the worst 20% of Trusts (areas for improvement) 1.KF 5 - Percentage working extra hours – (75%)

7 Key findings where the Trust has improved (statistically significantly) since 2011 1.KF 4 - Effective team working – (3.91) 2.KF7 - Percentage appraised in the last 12 months – (87%) 3.KF 22 - Percentage able to contribute towards improvements at work – (75%) 4.KF 24 – Staff recommendation of the Trust a place to work – (3.59)

8 Key findings where the Trust has deteriorated (statistically significantly) since 2011 1.KF 5 - Percentage working extra hours – (75%) 2.KF 10 - Percentage receiving health and safety training in the last 12 months – (70%) 3.KF 11 - Percentage suffering work-related stress in the last 12 months – (41%)

9 2012 - Overall Staff Engagement Overall staff engagement score is 3.74; the Trust is better than average compared to other mental health trusts and there is no significant change on the 2011 score which was 3.65 There are 3 sub-dimensions to employee engagement: – KF22: Staff ability to contribute towards improvement at work – Trust score 75% best 20% – KF24: Staff recommendation of the Trust as a place to work or receive treatment – Trust score 3.59 better than average – KF25: Staff motivation at work – Trust score 3.89 better than average
