MY NAME IS BRUCE CHRISTIE. Graduated from Swinbourne University in Melbourne, Australia, with a degree in Education Post Graduate degree in Secondary Education. Came to Taiwan 10 years ago, married 6 years ago and have a daughter aged almost 4 years. This is my 2nd year at Guangren. Prior experience: taught 1 year at Binjiang E.V. and 3 years prior at Tamkang High School

WHAT ARE THE CLASS GOALS? Maximize opportunities for students to speak English with each other Students will be able to use the material in an interactive manner Students will find speaking, reading, and writing English to be a positive experience Students will practice listening, speaking, and thinking in English using academic material and language.

HOW WILL I TEACH THE CLASS? Warm up period where students share with each other to get used to speaking English (5 minutes) Topic is introduced and discussed (5 minutes) Specific material is presented (5 minutes) Games and activities to practice (20 minutes) Students use the language on their own(5) minutes)

GRADE 6 PHONICS & SPELLING Harcourt School Publishers Spelling Practice Book Students will learn to spell phonetically, negating the need for long periods of repetitious boredom. Understanding the make-up of words means better comprehension when reading

ASSESSMENT Writing is not considered as part of the overall grade, but making an effort to write is! YLE spelling rules apply We are only assessing listening and speaking Students are required to ask and answer questions about the material using a “show and tell” format Effort counts for 20% of the class grade! Midterm/Final 50% Quizzes and Activities 30% Conversation Class makes up 40% of the Main Materials Grade

WHAT CAN PARENTS DO TO HELP? Students need to practice English as much as music! Make English a positive experience Encourage your child to talk about the books and conversations they study in school Be supportive when your child is trying to speak English with you
