3 WORKING-CLASS NEIGHBOURHOOD OF AMORA’S GLASS COMPANY Working-class neighbourhood built at the end of the 19 th century, where the cellar workers, (who initially came from England and were later replaced by 30 skilled workers from Hamburg,) were installed. Today the neighbourhood is very degraded, although some houses are still inhabited. They are simple houses with only 2 / 3 small rooms. However, they enjoy a beautiful view over the bay.

4 NEIGHBOURHOOD ‘BAIRRO DOS CORTICEIROS’ In 1906, the firm L. Mundet & Sons was established in Seixal. This factory, (which would become the largest cork industry company in the country and for some time of the world), built housing for their workers, as exemplified by the neighbourhood ‘Bairro dos Corticeiros’. - 4 storey buildings, -constructions with materials of lower quality, -small flats, however, located in a central area of the city with green spaces / gardens around. -The inhabitants like the place because they are a close community.

5 Houses in Seixal’s Historic Area The inhabitants of this house think that life here is not as good as they would like. Although they have certain living conditions, these are not the same as living in a modern house. Built in the 20s and 30s, these houses have wooden floors, two or three small rooms, without any toilet, small wrought iron balconies. In narrow streets with facades in tiles, they are part of Seixal’s historic area.

6 BUILDINGS OF THE 50S AND 60S Flats with large rooms and hardwood floors. Outside and inside the marble ‘marmorite’ was widely used which facilitates the preservation of the walls.

7 THE 60S AND 70S Urban construction with little concern led to the sudden uprising of higher buildings. They are authentic stores of a population which was constantly growing due to the return of many families from the former Portuguese colonies and due to migratory waves in the country.

8 The 90s Urbanistic concern returned to some urban lower neighbourhoods. 3 / 4 storey buildings. Medium-sized flats of 3, 4 middle-sized rooms near green area, parks and gardens.

9 21ST CENTURY Urbanistic concern with the creation of gardens and parks. A totally new neighberhood.

10 HOUSES IN AMORA This upper middle class house is new, with good housing conditions. It is a house of the 20 th / 21 st century.

11 LUXURY CONDOMINIUM In Aroeira, in a pine forest near the Atlantic coast, a gated luxury condominium for the upper class. Essentially consisting of houses with multiple rooms, garden and pool.
